History

Don Bosco School, Guntupalli, was started in 1985, on the five acre plot donated to the society by Rt. Rev. Joseph Thumma, the Bishop of Vijayawada. Fr. Mathew Emprayil was the founder of the school and guided its destiny upto April 1991.

The school started in sheds and the permanent structure for the school was begun to be built in 1987. In the same year, another four acres of land adjacent to campus offered to the Salesians was bought with the apostolic school in view. Fr Mathew was joined by Fr. Jose Alappat.

The Junior Aspirantate was shifted from Gunadala to Guntupalli in September 1991. The first batch of Std. VII did not attend the regular school. Fr. Balaswamy was appointed correspondent and superior of the community. Br. Mareddy assisted Fr. Balaswamy in looking after the 35 junior aspirants. The house was canonically erected in June 1992. Fr. Joseph Kollamparambil was appointed Rector with Fr. Simon Manjooran as administrator and Fr. John Punnoose, Brs. Thota Maria Das and Sebastian Parackel in the community. At this stage, there were forty six junior aspirants belonging to two batches.

At the start of Guntupalli in 1985, we were expected to look after the welfare of the people around. In 1987, the Guntupalli parish was formed and Fr Jose Alappat was appointed the first Parish Priest. In the same year, the Bishop offered to hand over the Parish of Mary Help of Christians, Guntupalli, to us. It was finally accepted and the agreement was signed on 21st Ocober, 1992. However, after two years, the parish was given back to the diocese. The apostolic school section was also closed since the province decided not to take candidates before completing their X class.
